LAWYERS BUILDING SEPTEMBER 1977

The former First National Bank of Gastonia, later known as the Lawyers Building, is shown above in September 1977 displaying a fading ghost sign for the Paul Rose Department Store in Akers Center on East Franklin Boulevard. The Paul Rose sign would eventually disappear and expose an earlier National Bank of Commerce advertisement. (First National Bank ceased operations at the Bank Holiday of 1933. Its place was taken by the National Bank of Commerce, which was organized in 1934. NBC moved to its new headquarters at the northwest corner of Franklin and Marietta in 1955.)
