GASTONIA CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION CALENDAR OF EVENTS MAY 20-29, 1977

The headquarters of Gastonia's Centennial activities was the original banking floor

of the Third National Bank and Trust Company on the ground floor of the Commercial Building at the southeast corner of Main Avenue and South Street.

The space had most recently been vacated by Sidney's women's clothiers, which advertised itself

as being located "On the busy corner at South and Main."

May it be so again.

Esso (later Exxon) Standard Oil Company National Credit Card, 1957 (above). An early gasoline credit card, issued before embossed plastics, this device consisted of a paper card inserted into a plastic sleeve with a metal embossing plate attached on the reverse.

From complex to simple: The 1957 Crown Credit Card from Crown Central Petroleum Corporation (below) was merely a paper card.

House plans (below) for "The Gastonia" found in Builders' Architectural Drawing, Self Taught, by Fred T. Hodgson, published 1917.

Frank L. Ashley High School Student Identification Card 1967,
which qualified the student for reduced ticket prices at the Webb and Center Theaters.
(Sorry folks. We looked the way we looked.)
